Magnetisation directions

Sintered NdFeB is anisotropic: the easy-axis orientation is fixed during pressing and cannot be changed afterwards. Magnetisation and polarity are applied later along this orientation. Both must be on the drawing.

  • Axial (through thickness) — common for discs and through-thickness blocks; arrow along the specified axis.

  • Diametral — across the diameter of a disc or ring.

  • Radial (segment) — for arc segments in rotors; orientation follows the radius, so each segment is pressed in a dedicated die.

  • Multi-pole ring — several poles on one ring; requires a magnetising fixture; specify pole count and skew.

  • Halbach arrangements — a sequence of orientations across a set; specify per position.

Whether magnets are delivered magnetised or unmagnetised (magnetised after assembly) changes handling, shipping class and fixture cost. State which you need.
